Obiettivi formativi
Sezione 1: Complessi metallici in medicina e biologia
Professore: Dr. Luca Salassa
Section 1: Metal complexes in medicine and biology
Teacher: Dr. Luca Salassa
Learning objective:
Students will gain fundaments in the biological chemistry of coordination and organometallic compounds. These include understanding the fate of both the metal and the ligands for selected complexes under biologically relevant conditions. They will also understand the methodology employed in medicinal inorganic chemistry to develop drug candidates. Students will value how photochemistry can be harnessed as a tool to control the biological activity of metal complexes. This will be achieved at a theoretical level as well as in the computational chemistry laboratory, where they will gain hands-on experience on model photoactive complexes.
Section 2: Metalloenzymes
Teacher: Dr. Fernando López Gallego
Learning objective:
Students will gain fundaments in enzymology focused on metalloenzymes and their applications. These include understanding how metalloenzymes work under both biological and abiological relevant conditions. They will also understand the methodology employed in biocatalysis to improve and develop new metalloenzymes. Students will value how metalloenzymes can be harnessed as a valuable tool in synthetic, environmental and medicinal chemistry. This will be achieved at a theoretical level as well as in the computational chemistry laboratory, where they will gain hands-on experience on looking up enzyme feature and visualize then in specific protein-structure sofware.
